New blog look; new post series! 

And as my celebrity girl tastes flounce around more than my nail polish color; I figured it's time to show off who I'm crushing on. And tonight's girl crush is kind of circumstantial given Rebel Wilson just hosted Chelsea Lately tonight.

Yep. Hosted. And interviewed Chelsea and it was all her idea. I have a feeling if she keeps up this momentum she'll be as big of a name as Melissa McCarthy.

So why Rebel? Well look at that body! A strong-sarcastic-silly-awkward-confident in her curvy body woman... that's attractive. Never mind she is hysterical. Watch her cold opening with her audition tape -- who else can try to make a sign stand on its own look funny rather than really stupid? And, my final reason is that accent! Oh, and the fact that she can sing! We have evidence on this from Wilson's role in Pitch Perfect, at least what we can hear in the trailer until October 5th.

And if you're into it, Bachelorette (which came out looking a little less than desirable to my tastes, unfortunately) is out this weekend.so watch her on Chelsea Lately or the two movies and fall into a crush with me!

Yes, yes, I'm still on my rampage (although not as passionate as My Top 10 Signs It's Turning into Autumn) of wanting my cooler weather to bust out some fleeced leggings (with gold and silver studs! Ragstock $6!!), tall boots and awesome chunky sweaters. But, these next four outfits have been sufficing for the last few weeks of mixed weather.

Typically I'm not the one to be bluish (courtesy of the accent in Yellow Submarine) but it's the mix of the fake wooden-like buttons in the difference to the blue color that made me want this shirt since I first saw it in the front of Ragstock. Now the adorable Peter Pan collar (the only collar I will ever wear, thank you!) t-shirt is in the back of Ragstock priced down to 9.99 + 25 to 75 percent off depending on the length of time the top has been in the back. 

And of course one must wear their awesomest studded boots with this shirt to get that smock-ish 90s look... ish.

And while we are on the topic of Ragstock, I need to make a note to myself that I need more belts and leggings to go with this cute yet simple jumper I found on the $8 Recycleable Dresses rack.

 Simple and worn with or without a shirt underneath (although my white and blue polka dotted top is PERFECT with this dress). But despite all my best efforts to match what I already have in my closet, girl needs to wear a belt to cinch around the curves. Although the dress is cute, it cannot be up and down like the way its worn on the left, one looks larger without the magic of a belt. Now... belts... must have belts... (Ragstock has a yellow one...)

 

To complete my fall-xiety is the one top I am super excited beyond all recognition for this somewhat sheer pine green top but really it's the zipper in the back that makes it (and the fact it shows off my bumble bee tattoo) and oh the possibilities! -- vests! sweaters! scarves! (jots down shopping list) but for the next few weeks, wearing it like so will have to (*sigh*) suffice.

Bunheads is like the lazy California cousin of Gilmore Girls, courtesy of Amy Sherman-Palladino's return to prime time TV of all things quick-witted, snarkastic (taken from a line of hers), pop culture referential and the success of up-and-coming film directors (Jamie Babbit directed a few GG episodes!) So as the season officially closes for the summer on Monday, we are taking a trip down recent memory lane to enjoy the best quotes from the show.

Not to toot my own horn or anything but...look who has a playlist played in Revival Clothing Store, or otherwise known as the place where I spend most of my paycheck on.

I love Disney; I love Disney history, the science of its animation, the labor of love from Disney's animators -- in short, I just love Disney movies! I could rant on and on about how much I love Walt Disney's masterpieces, but you can always watch "Waking Sleeping Beauty" for my reasons. But it's always interesting that most often certain Disney movies are almost love letters to nature. Of course that was Uncle Walt's intentions after all, making animation realistic.

For instance, Bambi is practically a Henry David Thoreau letter in an animated movie, despite having been adapted from Felix Salten's "Bambi. Eine Lebensgeschichte aus dem Walde" (Bambi, A Life in the Woods). Nature is as much as apart of the movie as Bambi or Flower or Thumper (my favorite from childhood) which is apparent with the selective songs of "Drip Drip Drop (Little April Showers)" and "I Bring  You a Song" using the elements and 7-layered multiplane camera with oil-painted Eastern Impressionism courtesy of Tyrus Wong. The more refined results have placed this Disney classic at number 3 in AFI's Top 10 Animated Films.

But before perfecting the multiplane camera on Bambi and Snow White the Seven Dwarfs, Disney and animators always did animated shorts to work on their techniques of what they wanted in their full length films. 1937's Silly Symphony The Old Mill did just that... and more than what the animators expected as it won that year's Academy Award for Animated Short. Between a creaky Mill and the elements of rain, lightning and thunder as well as the close depictions of animal movements, it's no surprise why it won! (Fantastic analysis here)

As a early adolescent, I was obsessed with the wind in Pocahontas, and I still am to a fault! The use of Rotoscoping, or rotated projection where image frames are traced onto the sequence, has not been a stranger to Disney movies, spanning all the way back to Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.It is this special effect that gives fluidity to Pocahontas's movements.  

The Princess and the Frog is a very eloquent use of Disney and Pixar's Toon Boom Harmony's computer software all over, but shines (no pun intended) in one scene. When the firefly Ray sings "Ma Belle Evangeline" for his love of the North Star, nature suddenly lights up and  in its 2D computer colored glory.

1. Stars and Metric start showing up on your Ipod or MP3 player (perfect fall music)

2. You have a craving to be wearing thigh high boots, scarves, layers

3. You have a craving for soup and hot casseroles

4. You are perfecting your "Carrie strut" specialized for the cooler weather (what? I'm the only one?) 

5. Nothing sounds better than scary movies assisted with a BIG bag of assorted candy

6. You start painting your nails the "it-colors" for fall a month or two earlier

7. You start planning your Halloween costume 

8. Staring at leaves and nature waiting for them to brown up

9. When you realize the connection between Autumn and the smell of old books (for real, it exists)

10. When walking in cooler weather with a to-go coffee mug in one hand and a large Gothic novel in the other sounds extremely appealing.
