Well, here are my summer rules and since I neglect to take pictures of my nails (which I totally should), I must recommend shimmery light glitter polishes for summer... I feel so Musings from Manhattan! Speaking of you, MfM, I miss your face... er nails...
Patterns Make the World Go Round... Specifically Polka Dots...
Because polka dots are a girl's best friend with the multiple ways of wearing them, but lately I found the majesty of pairing them with my essential red jeans that finally feel good and broken in; and really comfortable sandals always work... but back to polka dots, showing off both worlds as the black and white top (although a little snug with a thin fabric and a cinched in hem that doesn't help the figure much) is from Ragstock for $5 in the Recycle Area (aka. my God) and the white with blue dots from Revival for $8. I find no sin in even accessorizing with polka dots and red jeans with lighter girly colors like the baby yellow head band (Silver Spider, $1 Table) and this super badass pink skull cuff from local artist Kim Sun Designs for 10 bucks at the local arts fest..
The Essential Summer Pattern: Flowers, Flowers, Flowers!
Whether retro like my adorable Prime Time brand pink with blue roses or my latest flowery and my latest Cheri flower dress (magically structured with a corset-like waist and pleats with pockets) (Revival, $12 during a 20 % off sale) (did I mention... WITH POCKETS!?) which is long enough to go bare-legged but not bare-thigh because some girls need to keep shit in. That is my cross to bear but it leaves opportunity for black leggings to go with the most COMFORTABLE T-SHIRT EVER! (Revival, $6)
And Rockstar to Usher in Fall
Because what is more badass than a $10 dollar t-shirt from Nylon to commemorate their 13th anniversary designed by Nylon's art director and a $6 black skirt from Revival that can be removed with one short zip? Awesome. And of course what can be more cool both weather-wise and bad ass than black and white stripes? I'm so ready for fall... and to go shopping on this week's impending paycheck.
I'm starting to think there should be a difference between a hot spot vspot and a meow-spot vspot... discuss.

Not a trailer, oh no, but we are granted with a TEASER of Anne Hathaway singing the immaculate "I Dreamed a Dream" with all the heartbreak and poverty in her voice -- so... it must suck to be Susan Boyle right now because this teaser owns! Good News, Esthero is Still Awesome!
Esthero: the Goddess that has blessed my Itunes with the snarky "Wikked Li'l Girls," the whimsical duet with Sean Lennon in "Everyday is a Holiday With You" and the anthemic "We R in Need of a Musical Revolution" (and maybe the song that I discovered her with on the L Word, but I'm still pretending I never watched it) -- well, happy happy news, after 7 years of cooling her heels, Esthero is back making catchy-as-fuck ditties and being wonderfully dirty simultaneously. Love her! Look for album "Everything is Expensive" in forthcoming months!
Fortune Feimster Fills in For Chelsea Lately
Typically, I have little tolerance for lesbian stereotype anything, including "lesbian" comediennes for the fear of capitalizing on those same stereotypes that we are being made fun of but... oh hell... this was the best Chelsea Lately "cold opening" EVER as Chelsea was recovering from knee surgery. I love watching Fortune make fun of her body and doing the dancing and the best part for me? "LOOK ME IN THE EYE! LOOK. ME. IN. THE. EYE!"

It's About Time Dressy Bessy!
What's bright technicolor with sunglasses, bitching guitars and a babydoll dress singing about Alice in Wonderland? Um, no one but Tammy Ealom, lead singer of Dressy Bessy, who just this past week released Summer Singles Volume 1 (Radio) featuring acoustic and perky sounds of "Hey Alice!" and "Little Pieces" as well as a video for the prior song. And just so you know, "Hey Alice" has gone into my summer music canon.

Fans rejoiced and some major reviewing magazines scrunched up their noses in a "really?" as if Spektor didn't have enough B sides so the aptly named "What We Saw from the Cheap Seats" is a perfect album. name, although it would have been well-suited for a two disc album filled with her live songs finally produced in the studio as some of my personal favorites "Baby Jesus," "Raindrops," and "Loveology" have never been released in the studio. Spektor, if you're reading this... make this happen! But as for one of the years top 100 albums? Well, judge for yourself at NPR's First Listen.
Whatever Happened to Messina High?
In the home-stretch of post production, Messina High or the "10 Things I Hate About You" of "Much Ado About Nothing," just fancied up their website with what to expect for the look of the film. There are still unknowns in the film which, like I said in the Aural V-Spot Memorial Day Vspot (I swear, sheer coincidence) but I think this is something to look forward to other than their lack of spell check to Buissness from business. But, they got stills! And pictures! But still nothing too specific.

Always Summer Camp
If the Chinese had a special new year for this summer specifically, it would be "The Year of the Summer-Named Musical Duos" while Beach House and Best Coast's new albums "Bloom" and "The Only Place" is blowing indie and college radios into kibble, but Summer Camp already had their gigantic summery album with "Welcome to Cordale" so what more could they possibly do? Well, with Always EP they have a sound all their own with a little Beach House fuzziness and a whole lotta electro. Listen for yourself.
For me, summer is that time of year to hibernate in libraries, coffee houses, and grocery stores (sorry farmer's markets) for heat makes the hot-blooded Irish and German genetics flush my face bright red, insects biting at my arms so -- I distract myself. Here's some wonderful cinematic distractions to look forward to!

While this has been out since May, but only in limited release, it shows the beauty of up-and-comer Kara Hayward who falls in love with Sam (Jared Gilman) in 1960s New England which prompts the town she runs away from to go searching for the young lovers when realizing their own small town world is being turned upside down. So of course, being an Andersen film, it is stocked full of his go-to actors (Murray, and Schwartzmann) but recruits more almost has-been in Bruce Willis and Harvey Keitel and Goddess only knows what the legends (McDormand, Swinton, Norton) could be up to... but it's an Andersen film, it could go either way but it'll be one quirky trip.

Essentially, Electrick Children is the Mormon answer to Saved! Except, there's no attempting to convert a very gay and cute Chad Faust except being "impregnated by music" or so 15-year old Mormon Rachel (Garner) believes since she -- naturally -- believes in immaculate conception. Hey, if Rory Culkin could be my baby Daddy, the movie would end right there but it looks like things may not be like they seem.

As I am more familiar with the book, I look forward to seeing both of my favorite Gen Y ladies in this movie but I will remain critical about Helena Bonham Carter. Miranda Richardson wasn't available? But, expect a trailer at the beginning of Snow White and the Huntsman!

So until February 13, everyone will be having the great debate out of the thousand different adaptations if it is well needed to have a new adaptation. For Baz Luhrmann, it was the all to end all adaptations, delving into something experimental so why not have something that's postmodern yet getting really historically accurate? Or at least that's my thoughts on Carlo Carlei's version, the pictures I have seen in Entertainment Weekly a few weeks ago actually looks really promising -- they are actually teenagers! it's actually filmed in Italy! they might have accents! Those three factors might have you change your mind; time will tell.
